Aglaonema

As one of the most mainstream and valuable foliage pot plants, Aglaonema offers a multitude of benefits that make it indispensable for indoor environments:

Key Advantages of Aglaonema

  • Air Purification: Aglaonema is recognized by NASA for its ability to help clean indoor air.

  • Low-Light Tolerance: They are highly adaptable and can tolerate some of the lowest light levels of any common indoor plant. However, for optimal plant longevity and sustained quality, good light levels remain key.

  • Non-Irritating: Unlike many other Aroids, Aglaonema is known to not cause irritation to the skin or mucous membranes.

  • Exceptional Color in Low Light: The relatively new Colored Leaf Aglaonemas (derived primarily from A. rotundum and related species bred in Indonesia and Thailand) deliver a stunning splash of color while maintaining the plant's inherent toughness. Virtually no other plant provides this much vibrant color under such low-light conditions.

Modern Formats and Care

  • Compact Hybrids: While Aglaonema traditionally came only in tall sizes, our selection features modern, compact hybrids that are perfectly suited even for 10 or 12 cm pots.

  • Cultivation Preference: For maintenance, Aglaonema prefers to be allowed to dry out quite a bit between watering (within reasonable limits) to prevent issues. Any leaves showing signs of rot should be removed immediately from the base.

At Tropica Nursery, we grow a large volume of these plants, focusing exclusively on modern, compact hybrids. We categorize our offerings into Mini, Midi, & Maxi cultivars based on their final size and growth characteristics.
